Leathery nose and bright red berries becoming dark plums with cinnamon and cloves.

Not for me
Easy drinking Shiraz that will win over many non Shiraz fans
A nice medium bodied Shiraz that displays versatility and will be a welcomed companion to many a winter meal. Having said that, I can also see this in the picnic basket for a summers day in the park. A wine that will leave most people craving another glass.
Although I liked the wine, I would definitely not pay R80 for it.
Smoother than a 2nd-hand car salesman and better than mom's pudding!
A good, easy drinking wine that will go well with most dishes, especially pastas, braais, chicken and even some seafoods. Drink now, as it is at or near it's peak and will certainly not be better in 2-3 year's time.
A delicious melon and strawberry nose and body with a plum finish
A delicious wine in a more european light style. Rich flavours and an excellent accompaniment to Boeuf Bourguignon. Melon and strawberry nose, added to these are cloves and plum in the taste. Delicious sweet finish with plum flavours dominating. Fruity.
Sharp taste initially, but softens with subtle flavouring
This wine needed a LONG time to breathe. A nice wine, although I wouldn't break my back looking for it again. I would pay around R40 for this bottle in the shops, were it right in front of me.
A little disappointing as this is one of my favourite Shiraz's
Could do with a bit more structure.
Queen of Cups
If this wine were a person, I would confidently buy a used car from it. Forget the Schwarzenegger styles of Shiraz that singe your eyebrows in their eagerness to impress. This is uncluttered, honest and direct. It goes to the heart of what shiraz is, and does it with herbs and spices. Very enjoyable.
For me it is like blackcurrant juice for grown-ups.
A very atypical shiraz, none of the peppery flavour, full body or tannin structure that I expected. A very fruity and easy drinking wine which was too much like grape juice for my liking. Intensely sweet (with sour undertones) on the initial taste progresses to a more subtle finish.
Didja ever drink th Kalkveld?
I agree with Sauvy - Used to love the Zandvliet shiraz (oh, that American Oak Kalkveld!) Somehow Zv have faded from my radar in the last couple of years; good to see them back and getting with the social networking program. So please can I have a bottle and I promise to share it with friends and write up my review?
Gotta try it again!
Used to be a firm favorite...have been led astray by other winefarms. Time to revisit the Shiraz!
Kicking off a tasting!
Zandvliet have sent us this wine to taste and produce a picture for. So if you want to get one of the sample bottles and join the tasting make a comment and tell us why
